Regular Meeting Date for DRDC Set!  The Del Rio Dive Club meets the third Tuesday of every month, 7:00 pm at  Amistad Outpost: SCUBA & More (3806B Veterans Blvd).  Help spread the word to all divers, people curious about diving and, of course our families.  Make this a permanent entry in your calendars!

Dive Flag IconDive News
The dive trip to Cozumel was a smashing success.  We got a lot of diving in and Tom Sutherland completed his open water exercises to finish off his certification.  Even better, Terra, Tom and Lana all did their first night dive!  That's often a very tough dive for newer divers but they handled it great and even saw some of the "night life" off the shore of Cozumel.

So, if you've been thinking of taking a dive trip, why not join us for our next one?

Dive Flag IconUpcoming Training
Del Rio Divers has Basic Open Water certification classes scheduled in September and October.  They still have room, but be aware that October will probably be it for the season -- you'll have to wait until April or May to get certified locally after that.  Send us an e-mail, go to www.delriodivers.com or stop by Amistad Outpost to get on the list.

The following dates have been lined up for Basic Open Water Diver classes:

September 22-23

October 6-7

October 20-21

Please be aware that students are expected to bring the following to the course:
Mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit (suggest a 3mm shorty), booties (if you have strap-type fins), dive knife (highly encouraged) and two passport sized photos (1 3/4 in x 2 1/4 in).  ADVANCED CLASS - If you are scheduled for the AOW course be aware that a night dive and a deep dive are both part of the course.  You will need a primary and secondary dive light for this course.  Some sort of beacon is also advisable.  The primary light should be 10watt or higher, high intensity (typically a pistol-grip type light).  The secondary, often referred to as a BC light, is smaller, usually using AA batteries.  A beacon light can be any of the flashing or non-flashing small lights typically strung to the diver's tank, or as simple as one of those chemical light sticks available where camping supplies are sold.

Details:
Purchase your Basic Open Water Crew Pack (includes manual, dive tables, training dive log) and coursework DVD (available at Amistad Outpost).  Rental of BC, regulator, tanks, weights is also available at Amistad Outpost.  If equipment is not available at class time, instructor can provide them.  Bring a passport photo (for your certification card).  Upon completion of the course the instructor will issue you a temporary card and deliver your permanent certification card upon arrival from PADI.

Dive Flag IconClub Socials
Although there is obviously some degree of work involved in maintaining a club, the main purpose (at least OUR main purpose) is to simply provide an avenue for divers to congregate, dive and have fun.  It is a recreational sport, after all.  One of the ways to foster a cohesive group of people is to have various social activities from time to time.  This can range from dinners to promotionals to clean-ups.
