Club
Information |
| Why does any club exist? To
gather people together who share a common interest or goal. The Del
Rio Dive Club exists because divers have come and gone over the years, many
of whom have never explored the opportunities of Lake Amistad. We
propose to rectify that! |
|
History |
| We really don't have much in the way
of history since the club is just getting started. We can, however,
share the genesis. Rob Wade had arrived in Del Rio back in 1983 as an
enlisted member of the Air Force. A fellow Air Force member, who was
Advanced-certified, invited him to try SCUBA. As you probably expect,
he loved it. Over the years, he had numerous other opportunities to
dive, but didn't actually get certified until 2001, when local PADI
instructor Richard Urban took him through the paces. Four years later,
he was able to convince his wife to get certified. Eventually, they
sparked interest in some of their friends in diving. It was during a
casual discussion about diving opportunities in Del Rio that Lana Sutherland
brought up the possibility of having a dive shop in Del Rio. One thing
led to another and both Rob and Richard began in earnest the exploration of
creation Del Rio Dive Club. What you see here is the result. |
