Soup Du Jour 2015 Revival

Soup Du Jour 2015 This has been a busy season for Terra and me as far as the stage goes.  Terra made her directorial début with Souvenir.  Immediately afterward we began work on the 2015 revival of the show we world-premièred in 1998: Soup Du Jour.  Written by Todd Mueller, Hank Boland and music by Gregg Opelka, we had the distinct honor to be the first to mount this production.  Yours truly wrote an overture for the show as well as make some tweaks to the arrangements to fit our cast and the fact that we didn’t have a live band.  As a result, I receive royalties from the show.WP_20150417_19_52_09_Pro

This time around, however, I got to direct the show and do a few things with it I couldn’t do before.  Most significantly was introducing a new song for the character of Ms. DeCoco.  When we originally performed the show I felt her character needed a showcase song, and now I finally came up with one.  “A Matter Of Taste” follows in style of the show and Gregg Opelka’s lyrical approach (as much as I could emulate, that is) and uses a play on words to intertwine the superficial and flashy persona that DeCoco exudes with the contextual setting of being a food critic.  Courtney Jones, who takes on the role of DeCoco this time around, did a fantastic job with character and the song.
